This 24-hour clinic is designed to stress technique, sail performance, and racing strategy for intermediate and advanced windsurfers. The course will begin with a segment on carving, gybing, and water starting. Video will be taken and shown the next day over dinner for feedback. Starts, board handling, and upwind tactics will be the focus of day 2. Capacity for speed, technical knowledge, and comprehension of the rules give another leg up in a competitive environment. Day 3 revolves around racing strategy. Registration in Friday Night Windsurfing on July 10 is included (slalom races if windy, otherwise course racing). Emphasis will be placed on starts, board handling, mark rounding, recovery, favored tacks, leverage, consistency, and knowledge of the rules. Open water safety and rescue pertaining to the winds and currents of SF Bay will also be discussed in the classroom and demonstrated on-the-water if time permits.
On-the-water support will be provided throughout the week. 3-4 coaches will be present each day. There will be 2 coaches for the entire clinic (5x Olympian Mike Gebhardt and Stephen Bordes) with an additional 1-2 “guest” coaches per day (Andre Larzul, Steve Bodner). Pre-drills and rigging will be reviewed in the morning.
